The Onigumi was designed to support the powerful Faust class PatCom and would later see limited use with the Istari command ship. Like most designs coming from the IWNA the Onigumi is built around the power of its speed. It can pull a full 3 G's constantly and up to 4.5 when necessary. Added to this is an exceptional amount of armor, blended with a powerful array of both ammunition and energy based weaponry.
The name Onigumi translates roughly as 'band of demons', a term used to describe the common combat technique of the class. Usually at least two will work together to flank an enemy, dividing its fire, while they release their fighters and assault, creating a solid swarm of devestating firepower. With the inherient speed of the Onigumi this is extremely effective as they are able to outmanuever even some aerospace fighters, allowing their weaponry to be used most effectively.
When used in tandem with the Istari, typically the Onigumi will assist in the delivery of assets to a planets surface before returning to the mother vessel where they will be equipped with 12 RYU class LAM mechs. Should a sector require immediate support, the dropships can launch and deliver a company of mechs each anywhere on a planet within roughly 15 minutes. A quartet of Onigumi can deliver the entire Istari compliment of 48 RYU LAMs, often providing enough power to turn any battle in the favor of the Istari commander.
