Overview
The Hyperion was one of the first mechs to hit production in the Sons of the Dragon R&D group (along side the reproduction of the Gawain and Tyrannosaurus). The design, produced in 3042 took two years of tooling of the production facilities to begin producing the new mech. Designed as an even competitor for the time honored Atlas, the Hyperion is one of the few designs able to meet that guideline. Designers, realizing that new technology was arising all across the Inner Sphere, realized that their new model could easily be surpassed in less then a decade. To keep up the technology of the unit it held an interesting feature not seen since the days of the Star League, modular components. While this in no way competes with the rapid changing ability of an Omni mech, it allows for the entire retooling of the Hyperion''s systems in less then month. Cavernous weapons bays allow for any type of new weapon to be placed where another was removed. A special clause in selling contracts for Hyperions also allowed those who purchased a Hyperion prior to certain new releases to return the mech twice within 15 years of purchase for a free upgrade of technology (parts not included). This opening sales pitch was one of the highst selling points to sky rocket the company into the market. In 3051 the Hyperion was upgraded, and while its original form could compete evenly with the mighty Atlas, the mk II surpassed the AS7-K''s combat ability by a massive margin, making many an early buyer happy with their purchase.
