Overview

The Bahamut was a custom designed Battlemaster built in 3031 with the vast funds earned by the Dragon's Teeth mercenary company during the 4th Succesion Wars.  When offered the two broken down and weaponless Bahamut superstructures Jance immediately offered his share of the funds to attain one of the units.  He sold his old Phoenix Hawk to cover the additional cost needed but was immediately pleased with the purchase.  Spending four months locked up with the machine he rapidly accomplished a complete overhaul.  Abandoning the old and vulnerable hand cannon PPC Jance constructed a pair of Diverse Optics Large Lasers directly into the forearms, recessed to protect them.  The traditional Medium Lasers were retained while the rear mounts were replaced with Small Lasers.  A single head mounted Flamer gave birth to its nickname of Bahamut, the king of Dragons.  Probably the greatest change was the integration of a quartet of jump jets which drastically improved the manueverability.

For over a year after its first appearence it was simply known as 'that battlemaster'. It was not until a battle against Kuritan warriors trying to regain the Rasalhague worlds that it earned its name.  A Jenner pilot after the battle remarked that at one point looking up he saw the black battlemaster flying above him, fire spewing from its maw and with great wings of light, sure he was that a great dragon had come from the heavens to destroy him.  Jance liked this description so much that he permeantly named it Bahamut, marking its sides with golden scales.
