The Band

THE BEGINING:

Brian Robinson and Gareth Butcher met on an A-Level Design Tech course at Wigan and Leigh college in 1996. They started to play music together in Brian's garage and set about finding other musicians, after a few unsuccessful attempts with another guitarist and a drummer, Ryan Kelly who Butcher knew from school and who Brian had met at college, joined the band.

It was Ryan and Brian who approached Neil Gibbins in Wigan's infamous Tudor house, one evening in 1997, he agreed to play drums for the band only if his mate Adrian Taberner, joined as a singer. And so Kermitz Middle Finger was formed with Adrian Taberner on lead vocals and guitar, Ryan Kelly on Guitar, Brian Robinson on Guitar, Gareth Butcher on Bass and Neil Gibbins on Drums and backing vocals.

After months of practising Kermitz Middle Finger played their first gig at the "Beer Engine" in Wigan on the 6/11/98, supporting Unleashed. Almost everything that could go wrong, did go wrong that night, including: Lead Singer not turning up, sound and tuning problems, forgetting words to songs, a drunken drummer and guitarist and last but not least the headlining band didn’t advertise the gig at all.

Adrian and Ryan left the band a few months after the bands disastrous gig at the Beer Engine. (pictured above right) The rest of the band decided to carry on and continued to practice and write music together.

ENTER THE PARRY:

John Parry joined the band in March 2000 after answering the bands advert in Music 90. Sharing a similar warped sense of humour to the rest of the band, and wanting to shout "dick van dyke" an awful lot; John quickly settled in, and the band finally got lyrics to some of the songs that had been floating around for ages. In addition to this the band also wrote quite a few new songs as well. Kermitz Played it first gig with John at the Tonge Ward Labour Club in Bolton on the 10/11/2002 (just over 2 years since the first gig). This went considerably better than the first one even though the promoter, Tom Nash, tried cutting us off after two songs (he eventually succeeded after four!).

Since then the band have played numerous gigs in and around the Wigan area and have recorded their Debut CD "Hey Up Your Ass" at Wayward Studios, released their first Single "My Town" and have just released 'Are you sitting comfortably?' a follow up CD to Hey up your ass. The songs for this E.P were recorded both with John Kettle at his new studios, The Jiraff House and with Russ Miller at the Tudor House.

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST:

Brian Robinson took a break from the band in December 2001 to work for a homeless shelter in London for 6 months. He has recently returned and has decided not to rejoin Kermitz (he his continuing with his other band The Dads), we still remain friends and Kermitz intend to continue as a three piece for the foreseeable future.
