Sewah Sumatra Ulu Kakatua.

Sewah Sumatra Ulu Kakatua – A good example of a side weapon called the sewah which is widely used in the central and northern Sumatran regions. Handle in the typical cockatoo bird form and the top sheath, are made from, well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains. Bottom stem is made of angsena(?) woods with a horn bottom tip.

Very sturdy blade with a single sharp edge and an arcing profile has the base ferrule or metok made one with the blade.

Pamor patterns are not contrasting which is the norm of the region to prefer non contrasting nickel metals.
From the forging lines, it is done in the miring technique of the adeg or standing variations. It is said to protect the owner from natural mishaps.

. Aside from minor hairline cracks at the base of hilt, rest is all in very good condition. 

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19th century.
