Klewang Lombok Sasak Rajahan Ulu Tandok.

Klewang Lombok Sasak Rajahan Ulu Tandok – A good and rare example of a sword or klewang from the eastern island of Lombok. Finely carved handle with pierced through works, is made from buffalo horn, and in the form known as the Makara; a mystical creature which is a combination of an elephant, a bird and fish. Sheath is made of two pieces of hard woods, having two metal bands.

Long and very sturdy blade with single sharp edge and an arcing profile with a pointed tip that ends with double sharp edges.

Silver koftgari works are seen on both sides of the blade depicting the Lombok Muslim’s (Sasak) version of Arabic calligraphy, called Rajahan.

 Pamor patterns arranged in the miring technique of the adeg or standing variations which is said to protect the owner from natural mishaps.

Condition: Very good condition. Aside from minor chip at the base of hilt and tip of sheath, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece,  from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle to late19th century.
