Badek Bugis Untuk Banyu Adeg.

Badek Bugis Untuk Banyu Adeg – Another good and rather rare example of a side weapon called the badek from the southern Sulawesi region of Bugis. Handle in the typical Bugis pistol grip like form, is made from well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains, with the bootm stem fully encased with repoussed silver alloy stem cover.

Very sturdy blade with single sharp edge and a rather tapering tip, has an overall shape or dapor called badek kawali(?).

Pamor pattern are arranged in the miring technique with one side of the blade having semi circular formation called the pamor unthuk banyu or water bubbles pamor, and below it are vertical of the pamor adeg or standing pamor. The pamor unthuk banyu is said to enhance the owner’s status and popularity, while the pamor adeg is said to protect the owner from natural mishaps.

Condition: Very good condition. Except for minor restoration at the silver alloy, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19th century, with newly made wooden hilt.

Length of blade: 8".   Overall length: 12.5".

Price:- US$165 excluding shipping.
