Keris Minang Kabau Lurus Ulu Gading Perak Ayat.

Keris Minang Kabau Lurus Ulu Gading Perak Ayat – A very good and rare example of a keris from the Sumatran regions of Minang Kabau. Handle in the typical Minang jawa demam form is made of elephant ivory. Top sheath is made of well selected kemuning woods, with the bottom stem fully encased with finely repoussed silver having floral motifs at the front and Quranic verse at the back. A thick silver plated brass ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Sturdy straight blade with the perabots or base features using the kembang kacang or elephant trunk like characteristics can be classified as having an overall shape or dapor called condong campur(?).

Pamor patterns are arranged in the miring technique, and shows vertical pamor lines called pamor adeg or standing pamor. It is said to protect the owner from natural mishaps like fire sand floods.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 19th century.

Length of blade: See Pictures.   Overall length: See Pictures.
