Keris Minang Kabau Anak Alang Anyaman Perak Tandok.
Keris Minang Kabau Anak Alang Anyaman Perak Tandok – A very good and rare
example of a keris called the keris anak alang, from the Sumatran
regions of Minang Kabau. Finely carved handle is made from
elephant ivory, and is in the typical Minang upright jawa demam
form. The hilt is fitted with a well repoussed ferrule or pendoko made of
silver and suassa (gold alloy). Top sheath in the typical Minang
tebeng form with extended tips, is made from well selected kemuning
woods with natural flashing grains. Bottom stem is encased at the top half with
finely repoussed silver, with a plain suassa or gold alloy band in the
middle and the bottom half encased with the rarely seen weaving of silver and
horn.
Thick and very sturdy straight blade with a prominent spine and double fullers
flanking, has very well executed base features or perabots and an overall
shape or dapor called anak alang. It’s long and slim
characteristics is very similar to its longer examples called the keris
panjang or executioner’s keris.
Pamor patterns are arranged in the miring technique showing lines along
the edges called pamor wengkon, with an overall central pamor
arranged in the mlumah technique of the wos utah or scattered rice
variations.
The pamor wengkon is said to protect the owner and those around him in
times of chaos, while the wos utah or scattered rice is said to enhance
the owner’s material well being.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to middle 19th century.

Length of blade: 13.5". Overall length: 18.4".
