Keris Melayu Debek Betok 809.

Keris Melayu Debek Betok 809 – A very good and rare example of a keris from the northern Malaysian peninsular regions. Handle in the jawa demam form is made from buffalo horn and fitted with a silver alloy ferrule or pendoko. Top sheath in the sabit bulan or crescent moon form is made from kemuning wood with the bottom stem made of angsena wood having a kemuning bottom tip.

Short and broad blade with rather minimal base features or perabots, has an overall shape or dapor called debek in Malay or betok in Javanese.

Pamor pattern are arranged in the mlumah technique of the wos utah or scattered rice variations. At the base of one side of the blade, there are some contrasting pamor patterns showing a semi circle called pamor batu lapak and a swirl like formation called pamor qul buntet.

The pamor wos utah is said to enhance the owner’s material well being, while the pamor batu lapak and the pamor qul buntet is said to protect the owner in times of chaos.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 17th century blade with early 20th century fittings.

Length of blade: 7.1".   Overall length: 12".

Price:- US$280 excluding shipping.
