Keris Jawa Timur Lurus Jalak Mesem, Bawang Sebungkal.

Keris Jawa Timur Lurus Jalak Mesem, Bawang Sebungkal – A very good and rather rare example of a keris from the eastern Javanese regions. Handle in the typical Javanese planner or patra forms is made from hard trembalo(?) woods. The top sheath or wrangka in the gayaman branggah form is made from well selected pelet woods with natural contrasting grains. A thick plain brass ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Thick, rather broad and very sturdy blade with prominent spine, has the base features or perabots very well executed and deep. It has an overall shape or dapor called jalak mesem.

Pamor patterns are condense and are arranged in the mlumah technique with an overall pattern called the wos utah or scattered rice variations. All patterns are unplanned and called pamor tiban. At the base of the blade there is a peak like formation of unplanned pamor tiban that is called bawang sebungkal or halved onions.
The pamor wos utah and the pamor bawang sebungkal are said to enhance the owner’s material well being.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to early to mid 19th century.

Length of blade: 13.5".   Overall length: 18.3".

Price:- US$375 excluding shipping.
