MALAY ART GALLERY'S....House of  Keris

Keris Bugis Sulawesi Sepokal Batu Lapak.

Keris Bugis Sulawesi Sepokal Batu Lapak – A very good and rather rare example of a keris from southern Sulawesi regions of Bugis. Handle in the kerdas form and the top sheath is are made of very well selected kemuning woods with flashing grains with the bottom stem made of angsena woods with tiger’s stripe grains, with a buffalo horn bottom tip. A thick brass ferrule or pendongko completes fittings.

Very long and very sturdy blade with a straight but angular profile and plain base features, has an overall shape or dapor called sepokal..

Pamor patterns are very condense, and are arranged in the mlumah  technique with an overall pattern called wos utah, or scattered rice. At the base, an unplanned pamor tiban in a semi circular pattern is seen, and is called pamor batu lapak or saddle stone pamor.
The pamor wos utah  is said to enhance the owner’s material well being, while the pamor batu lapak is said to protect the owner in times of chaos.

Condition: Very good condition. Except for minor hairline cracks at the handle, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to middle 19th century.

Length of blade: 15.5".   Overall length: 19.5".

Price:- US$465 excluding shipping.
