Introduction |

This WebQuest is designed to lead you through Elvis' world as is depicted by Chris Abani in his novel Graceland. Throughout the course of this WebQuest you will be exposed to the sights, sounds and ideoligies that surround and influence Elvis as well as his friends and family. The purpose of this activity is to help you to develop a more in depth understanding of Elvis, his journey towards manhood and his relationships with the other characters in the text. These activities should help to bring life to Abani's words, stories and images. They should also remind you that as a reader we must be aware of the assumptions, thoughts and ideas that we bring to our interpretation of every text. The different tasks you will be asked to complete will provide you with the opprtunity to analyze Abani's character from the inside out, viewing the book as a separate entity, one which creates and maintains its own cultural, symbolic and aesthetic literary world. |

Below are the links that will lead you through your journey of Graceland. The four different tasks will lead you to your ultimate task, which will count as the final Graceland project. Your ultimate task will be to work in a group to create a film treatment, sound track and DVD cover for one chapter out of Graceland. You will have to use the knowledge you gain throughout this WebQuest to aid you in the production of your final project. You will recieve a handout with a more detailed description of this project in class. |
