Every day tens of people die on the roads in Kerala. Nothing is done to counter this - not by the people, not by the Government!

In the case of Ministers and MLAs traffic rules seem to be non-applicable. Here the car in which the MLA was travelling crashed while overtaking a Jeep.

HYDERABAD, India (AP) -- The toll of people killed by a brutal heat wave in southern India continues to climb as reports trickle in from rural districts, the government said.

Temperatures that had soared to 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit) along the Bay of Bengal have fallen in the last few days in most of Andhra Pradesh state, but officials are still counting deaths among the elderly, ill and laborers who work outside.

On Thursday afternoon, the death toll stood at 450. By late Thursday, it had risen to 622, said D.C. Roshaiah, the state relief commissioner.

The highest number of deaths, 109, were reported in the West Godavari district, followed by 101 in Krishna district.

It has been an abnormally hot May in southern India, with dry winds blowing from the northwestern deserts much earlier than usual. Temperatures have been 7 per cent higher than normal for the month.

New Delhi and other parts of northern India were also baking in the heat, but southerners were hit the hardest.

Andhra Pradesh suffered heat waves in 1996 and 1998.

The state government has ordered a scientific committee to examine the causes of the heat wave.

Two Mishaps on the Same Day?

Airline accidents can happen any time, but two happenings on the same day at the same airport calls for an enquiry. Where was the mistake? IA Pilots or at the ATC or lack of facilities at the 'International Airport'?

Readers may recall that Air India Jumbo Flight of 1978 Jan 1 crashed after take off from Bombay, only because the pilots were fully drunk after the New Year Celebrations!!!

Enquiry Report: "The aircraft left Mumbai (Bombay)-Santa Cruz Airport for a flight to Dubai (Flight AI855). The aircraft was cleared to climb to 8000ft and report when passing 2400ft. Following a right turn, the aircraft rolled to the left beyond 90deg, lost control and crashed into shallow (10m deep) water, 3km offshore at an angle of 35-40deg.
PROBABLE CAUSE: The Attitude Director Indicator (ADI) probably malfunctioned during the right turn, which led to a complete loss of situational awareness of the crew members. "

Providential escape for IA passengers PTI Kochi, May 19 {[Hindustan Times, 19 May 2002]

Over 200 Indian Airlines flight from passengers of an Sharjah providential escape on Saturday to Kochi had a when skidded off the runway while it was the aircraft landing at Nedumbassery international airport here, airport sources said Sunday. on

The airbus 300 went at least 100 metres off the runway when the pilot realised the mistake and immediately took off, they said.

Though the incident took place early morning on Saturday, the airport authorities and top civil aviation officials were tight lipped about it till this morning.

The Regional Controller of Air safety, Chennai, is probing the incident, the sources said.

In another incident at Nedumbassery airport on Saturday, about 250 passengers of an Indian Airlines Sharjah-Kozhikode-Goa flight had a miraculous escape when four of its tyers deflated while landing.

The two incidents had taken place on a day when the Civil Aviation Secretary and Air India Chairman Roy Paul and other senior officials of the Air India had held discussions with airport officials with regard to upgrading various facilities at the airport.

What a Turnaround!

During the pre-indepdence era, people struggled to get schools in their locality. One exmaple is given in Keralaforum itself. Now we are heading in the opposite direction. Closing down schools! Seems to us that this unfortunate gentleman probably was one of the very few who never took a penny in bribe! Police has been practically spoiled by the politicians. Black Money Racket!

This shows the complete lack of checking in our Banking System. Anywhere in the world, if non-recognized parties deposit and withdraw large sum of money, this must be reported to Reserve Bank and the authenticity of the money as well as the depositor should be checked. It seems this is not done in our Banks. What is the Government's Role Here? CBI's???
Politicians? Are the politicians just puppets of these fellows? Is there a heavy parallel government operating here?

What is the point in ADB and World Bank Loan when our own private parties have money far exceeding the loan???
