David M. McNally, 48, Assistant Chief and a twenty-five year veteran of the fire service. Died Wednesday morning, Dec. 22, 1999, fighting a house fire in Keokuk, Iowa. He was born on March 16, 1951, in Keokuk, the son of Leo D. and Bette Rose Ewers McNally. He is survived by his wife Barbara; his mother; two sons, Patrick and Joseph McNally; a daughter, Laura; a brother, Stephen; a sister, Mrs. Frank J. "Jane A." Sartory; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Leo on Sept. 24, 1985.

Mr. McNally was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and a graduate of Keokuk Cardinal Stritch High School. He was an assistant chief of the Keokuk Fire Department and a member of the Association of Firefighters #568. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus DeLa Salle Council #619, Cardinal Stritch Booster, a two term Keokuk Catholic School Board member and a member of the Keokuk Elks Lodge #106. Nathan Richard Tuck, 39, a member of the fire service for four and one-half years. Died Wednesday morning, Dec. 22, 1999, fighting a house fire in Keokuk, Iowa. He was born on April 6, 1960, in Keokuk, the son of Dallas Richard and Jacquelyn Sue Schriver Tuck. He is survived by: his wife, Kimberly; a son, Justin; a daughter, Mrs. Jacquelyn Marie Tuck Jones; a granddaughter, Natalie Danielle Marie Jones; his father; two brothers, David and Daniel Tuck; a niece, Kaylee Tuck; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald Lee and Jo Anna Marie Johnson. He was preceded in death by his mother and grandmothers.

He had lived in Keokuk his entire life and belonged to the National Association of Firefighters #568. Mr. Tuck was a lifetime member of the Keokuk Football Boosters. He had been a volunteer coach for Keokuk Senior High baseball and for Keokuk Middle School football, basketball and track. He was also a certified lifesaver and guard at the Hoerner YMCA. The youth of Keokuk were a high priority in his life. Mr. Tuck enjoyed playing the guitar and performed several times for the senior citizens of the First Baptist Church, where he also served as deacon.

Jason Lou Bitting, 29, who had been a firefighter for six and one-half years. Died Wednesday morning, Dec. 22, 1999, fighting a house fire in Keokuk, Iowa. He was born on March 15, 1970, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Lyndle and Johnette Masson Bitting. He is survived by his wife, Colleen; three children, Katelyn, 8, Madison, 6, and Tyler, 2; father; mother; a step-sister, Amanda Lewis; a father-in-law, David Stevens; a brother-in-law, David Stevens; a sister-in-law, Connie; four nephews, Richard Wade, David Stevens, Devin Lewis and Drew Lewis; three nieces, Rachel Wade, and Brittany and Jessica Stevens; grandparents, Ruth and Raymond Wemer, David Masson, Betty Bitting, Gertrude Steffen; numerous aunts and uncles; and cousins. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Marlen Bitting; his mother-in-law, Cathleen Stevens; a step-brother, Jainey Briscoe; and a great-grandmother, Elsie Atkinson.

Mr. Bitting had been a member Fire Department for the past 6-1/2 years. He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters #568 and attended All Saints Catholic Church.

Jessica McFarland, 7, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, as a result of a fire in her home. She was born on Nov. 17, 1992, in Keokuk, the daughter of Joseph Richard McFarland Jr. and Melissa Ann Bowden McFarland Cooper. Jessica's survivors include: her father and mother; a brother, Jacob McFarland; paternal grandmother, Bonnie Patten; paternal great-grandfather, Joseph McFarland Sr.; paternal great-grandmother, Thelma Blakely; paternal aunts and uncles, Mrs. Joan Garner, John McFarland, Nathan Patten, Michelle Patten, and Janice McFarland; maternal grandparents, Howard and Patricia Bowden; maternal great-grandmother, Doris Bowden; maternal great-grandparents, Charles and Joan Rampley; maternal great-great-grand-mother, Ada Mae Peterson; maternal uncle, Brad Bowden; maternal great-aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by a paternal great-grandfather, Kenneth Blakely; two aunts, Joyce Kay Blakely and Gladys Marie Blakely, and cousin, Steve Perry. She lived in Keokuk for most of her life and was a first grader at Lincoln Elementary.

Robert Alan and Rebecca Lynn Cooper, 22 month-old twins, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, as a result of a fire in their home. They were born on Jan. 31, 1998, in Quincy, IL, the children of Russell Eugene Cooper and Melissa Ann Bowden McFarland Cooper of Keokuk. Survivors include: their father and mother; two brothers, Jacob McFarland and Russell E. Cooper II; a sister, Amy Joann Cooper; paternal grandfather, Ralph Cooper; paternal grandmother, Viola Cooper; paternal aunts and uncles, William Cooper, Floyd Cooper, Betty Moore and Bertha Brem; maternal grandparents, Howard and Patricia Bowden; maternal great-grandmother, Doris Bowden; maternal great-grandparents, Charles and Joan Rampley; maternal great-great-grandmother, Ada Mae Peterson; maternal uncle, Brad Bowden; and maternal great-aunts and uncles, Judy and Michael Dray and Shelly and Rick Fry. The children were preceded in death by a maternal great-grandfather, John Bowden, paternal great-grandparents, Alix and Bessie Cooper and Rufus and Helen Darnell.
