The Panhandle's Last Resort
(If yer headn' east, it's yer first!)

Home of Black Mesa, Oklahoma's Highest Point.

"The Merc" is located in Oklahomas panhandle near Black Mesa State Park. It's the only town in Oklahoma on Mountain Time. With many interesting things to see and do, we have Dinosaur Tracks just a few miles away and a Dinosaur Quarry. The Santa Fe Trail with ghost towns and Old Fort Nickels site. Robbers Roost where outlaws would hide out and the tri-state marker, where Oklahoma, Colorado and New Mexico all meet.
Kenton should be on your list of places to visit. We have info on all points of interest and local events. And the coldest soft serve ice cream you will ever have the pleasure of. Be sure to stop in and take a load off.

  • Kenton mercantile was built in 1898 by Drew Barnum( a nephew of P.T. Barnum ).
In Kentons "hay day", the town had a few churches, one school,
a few telephones, a newspaper and Drew's store.
Kenton soon had two large general mercantile stores, a drug store, variety store,
ice cream parlor, barber shop, shoe and boot shop, two hotels and a livery stable.
Before long, a bank was organized and they had three saloons.
Things have change a bit since then, but one thing surely hasn't.
The beatiful scenery and freindly atmosphere of Kenton has endured.
