Here's one of the 105mm howitzer positions of my battery, "India" 3/11. The battery was located at its base camp within the Chu Lai perimeter, and was in the middle of a fire mission when I took this photo. You can see the mountains just west of the coastal plain in the background. On the near edge of those mountains was our OP on Hill 213.

I've always found this photo to be a little amusing. It's the camouflage netting. The base camp was situated in an area of low, rolling sand dunes. The way you found it was by noting the nets. I always felt that someone at battalion had the idea that the VC had reconnaissance aircraft or something, and that these nets were a real great way to hide us. Well, we never were strafed, so I don't suppose it was a complete waste of time.

 
 

In memory of LCpl Robert Guy Brown, KIA on Operation Texas on March 21, 1966. LCpl Brown had been the acting artillery FO for Echo Company, 2d Battalion, 4th Marines. He had just turned 19.  Semper Fi.
