Tombs
This shot was likely taken on one of the military installations on the island. During the war, the Japanese Army used many of these as gun emplacements.
The tombs can be found everywhere. It's not uncommon to come around a blind turn like the one above and find cars parked on the shoulder belonging to surviving relatives visiting there dearly departed.
The caption in the photo says it all. However, the tombs may have been there before the junk yard.
