Salem Kenpo Club

Instructor

Sensei Mary Wright began studying Kenpo Karate in 1980 at the age of 10.  She earned her black belt at 16 and was an assistant instructor under Tom Ballard at the Aaction Kenpo Karate school in Redding, CA.  After moving to Elgin, OR in 1991, she established the Kenpo club through the local community center.  This club provided regular instruction and also seminars and special events.  Although Sensei Wright moved to Salem in 1995, the club was maintained by local students and Sensei Wright returned often provide instruction.  She has established the Salem Kenpo Club to further train and explore the vast knowledge within Kenpo.

Miss Wright has been a skilled competitor in forms, fighting and weapons in martial arts tournaments on local, regional and national levels.  Miss Wright has been competing since the age of 12 and has participated in events throughout the West Coast.  She is also a noted tournament judge.

During the past eight years, Sensei Wright has continued her training in American Kenpo through Mr. Ballard's instructor, Master Jim Mitchell.  She is now a first generation student and holds a 3rd degree black belt under Master Mitchell.  She is also the highest ranking female in the Mitchell Family Systems association.  Miss Wright is excited to establish Salem Kenpo Karate Club to continue to spread Kenpo Karate.
