Feb 2002 Update: New construction at Wenshan completed with the installation of two new outdoor pools. Much easier access to the springs than before....
Wenshan Hot Springs:
This is one of the few easily accessible natural hot springs in Taiwan. Good place to go and have a few beers and smoke a Cohiba or two. (Although my cardiologist does not recommend such activities)
There are a couple pools here. Two or three small pools for feet soaking and one big pool for the full boil treatment...
Two things to note: First, this spring is hot as hell, so best to numb out on beer before attempting an entry. Second, it is often overrun with locals, so the best time to go is early in the morning, night time or during a typhoon. (Glen, Erika, and I did this once and we were almost swept away by the raging river as we tried to cross....)
Note: Be careful when you walk down the trail to the hot springs, as the steps on this path are steep and slick... |
