Taipingshan
Taipingshan is probably one of the nicest mountain retreats in Taiwan. In this area there are hot springs (in Jentsu), a old train line running out to a forest reserve (from Taipingshan) , and a small alpine-like lake, which is about 16 KM's past Taipingshan
This area used to be a lumber center as a number of huge old growth tree stumps can attest to. Many people like to get up early for the sunrise. (The best viewing point is around mile marker 14.5 on road to Tsuifeng Lake) Also popular is the 3 KM hike from the forest train station down to a three tiered waterfall.
If you plan to visit this area, be warned that facilities are limited. There are no gas stations/covenience stores, etc. So, gas up and bring some food with you before you get here. |
