Liyu Lake
This small lake is located south west of the city of Hualien. Activities here include boating, hiking, and camping. There are a couple of trails that lead to the top of Liyu mountain. (601 meters) The trailhead is behind the lake and is well marked. The hike is moderate and takes about 45 minutes to get to the top, where there are good views of the lake, and of Huatong Valley..
Like most places in Taiwan, Liyu Lake is crowded on the weekends. But this is one of the better places in Hualien to have a barbeque.
