Nantou County: Chwen-Yang Hot Springs
Chwen Yang Hot Springs

Actually we were headed elsewhere when we saw a small sign in Chinese for this place, and decided to give it a try.  The locals we met said it was a 15 minute walk and easy to find.

Trekking uphill, Joe and I somehow were diverted from the "path", and spend some 30 minutes bush-wacking our way thru a bamboo forest.

It was hot, and the jungle was closing in as the trail grew cold.  (Trail markers such as discarded chopsticks and Taiwan beer bottles had long since vanished..).

Finally, Joe had had enough, and turned on my leadership.  After a brief, bloodless coup, Joe emerged as the new lead man.  (A fortunate turn of events, as it turned out)   With Joe now at the helm,  we eventually found the right way, and locate the
Sacred  Hot Springs. (He earned his Billy-Goat Badge on this day)

Although we returned as conquering hero's with the coveted photos of the "hidden springs", my wife seemd less than thrilled that she had to wait for 2 hours vs. the 30 minutes we promised.  (Oh well, She'll get over it,  I'm sure)
Chwen yang Hot Springs - Nantou County
Directions:   About half way between Wushe and Lushan on route 14.  Turn down scary switch back path on your right.  Follow path down to the riverbed and cross small bridge.  Walk directly up the jeep path about 50 meters.   From there follow the creek upstream for about 30 minutes crossing 2 waterfalls and you will find the first of several small natural hot springs.
