Chishingtan
This beach is located on the north east side of Hualien City.
There are signs posted here in Chinese that tell you that swimming is not allowed. As with all such regulations in Taiwan, this one is strictly adhered to. (People occasionally tempt fate and drown here)
This place gets crowded on the weekends, and if you stay more than a little while, you are likely to see one of the natives screaming along the beach in his dune buggy, all tanked up on rice wine. (I'm pretty sure that this activity is also strictly prohibited)
If you want to get away from the dune buggies and the crowds, the best thing to do is head north a few kilometers from Chishingtan Park on route 193. On the east side of the road there are several short paths that cut through the woods to the beach. Take one of these paths to the beach, and you can easily find a secluded beach that you can stake out for yourself.
Note: The route from Chishingtan north on 193 is a pretty nice bike ride if you are so inclined. You will pass through a Chinese cemetary, several small villages before reaching Route 9. |
