QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

Return to Home Page

It is our aim to discover and understand both ourselves and others in the world. To understand the thoughts and actions of Muslims in Turkey, we claim that it is necessary to learn certain key cosmic symbols, divine acts, and spiritual-religious images belonging to the language and culture. What are the key symbols, divine acts, and images that would help us understand you? What is it that keeps you going, that gives you energy, that provides both comfort and surprises?
We have tried to show what worship means for Muslims in Turkey in the midst of the social, political, and economic movements of our times. What does worship or religious heritage mean for you in the same context? How do you see your own acts of worship in terms of the secularization of life?
We suggest that you try something of what we have attempted: choose an aspect of your worship life and explain it to an outsider. Try to avoid traditional jargon. Using only everyday common speech, can you talk about your own faith and worship and their relevance to everyday life and daily behavior?
