In 2000 I attended the Alaska State Trooper Academy in Sitka, Alaska. The Academy consisted of
of 16 weeks of training (which includes classroom studies, physical fitness, firearms training, Fish and Wildlife
training, Emergency Vehicle Operation, water based training, and numerous other types of training). Both State Troopers
and Municipal Officers attend the Trooper Academy. At the end of the Academy, Troopers stay at the Academy for three
additional weeks of training which includes Fish and Wildlife based training, a 3-day survival trip, and boat/marine training.
The typical day at the Academy started at approximately 0500 to 0600 with PT. After alittle PT, then breakfast. The rest
of the day is either in the classroom, on the firing range, or on the mats doing Defensive Tactics. Some days you might go out
for an afternoon run, try the obstical course, or start training based senarios. At the close of the day, generally you find time
to study, shine boots, and wash/press uniforms (not to mention keep the Barricks clean for weekly inspection).
