Harbor Freight Mini-Lathe
This 7x10 mini-lathe was on sale for $369 from Harbor Freight, and it's the same basic version that everyone (Grizzly, Homier, etc) seems to sell, with a very few minor differences. It is kind of small but there was a serious price uplift for a bigger machine, and I didn't really have the space at the time for anything much larger. I'd have get a much larger (and expensive) machine to do any work on rifle barrels anyway, so I'm probably just as well off with the mini-lathe. Most of the time I use it to make tools, jigs, screws, and other small parts that I may need from time to time. It has paid for itself already, just by allowing me to save some serious money on custom gunsmithing jigs. Still, its short bed and tiny chuck can make things difficult at times, forcing you as they do to work in a cramped space. My mom has had larger sewing machines.
