Baseline: Bone Stock at Oak Ridge This is my Autocrosser & my daily driver. The NX2000 is a great car, but being 10 years old, has lost some of its inspired handling characteristics, and is now plagued by excessive body roll and understeer. The struts are worn-out, but replacements have been chosen (AGX's w/ Hypercoil Springs) and will be installed this summer. The brakes are good now, since I replaced the rotors, one of the calipers, and the fluid (replaced with synthetic). The engine still has plenty of go, and I haven't had any problems with the clutch or transmission.

I think I can be competitive in STS, as I already have a 3rd and a 1st (non-points events), so I think things are looking pretty good. The regulars in STS in my region are a pretty fast '01 Ford Focus ZX-3 with a few mods, A '99 Civic SI that is fairly stock, and a VW Golf 1.8T that is always pretty close to my times. There is a Hot-Rod ACR Neon that runs sometimes, and is probably the fastest car, but he hasn't been at the last few events. If the Neon is a no-show, everyone else stays as-is, and I keep getting better, I think have a pretty fair shot. I am going to try to add at least 1 upgrade per month, and the springs/struts may put me right in the heat of it, but the springs won't be ready until late summer, and I probably won't be able to afford struts until then anyway.

Mods List:
Date Installed Part Notes
3-8-02 K & N Hi-flow filter Smoother at High Rev's
4-1-02 Pacesetter Shifter Shorter, more direct throws
4-12-02 OEM Airbox Mod Sounds better, seems to breath better
4-24-02 Brembo Brake Rotors/ synthetic fluid Much better pedal feel
5-14-02 Random Thoughts Racing Rear STB Less understeer
Tires:
Falken Azeni Falken Azenis

updated: 4-15-02
Got my tires in. Falken Azeni's. Since I'm going to run STS now, I don't have to worry about racing tires, and the Azeni's are supposed to be as good a street tire as there is.

Purchased: Falken Azeni's 195/60/14 ($52)
Projected Wheel cost: $150
Installed: April 24

Suspension:
Random Thoughts Rear STB Random Thoughts Rear STB

9-23-01: Stock- Excessive Understeer & Body Roll Ordered some 300/200 rate Hypercoil springs through High Performance Online. Much stiffer than Eibach's Pro-Kit, only not adjustable like GC's. Trying to save for KYB AGX's. These should be great struts, and are fully adjustable on the car. Recently installed the Random Thoughts Racing rear STB.

Purchased: Hiperco Springs - $240
Saving for: KYB AGX
Struts: $100 /each
Aligment: $60
Projected time of Installation: Aug.

Brakes:
Old Stock Rotor New Brembo Rotor

Replaced rotors with high quality Brembo OEM style rotors. Flushed braking system with Valvoline Synthetic DOT 3/4 Fluid. Waiting to get Axxiss Pads and SS brake lines.

Looking at: Axxis Metal Master ($50)
Rotors Installed: Brembo OEM Style - $50 /each
Pads: $50 /set
Fluid / Flush: $10
Rotors Installed: April 24

Intake & Exhaust:

updated: 3-26-02
Found a Sweet stainless exhaust setup from Courtesy Nissan. The best looking one I have ever seen, and it's made for the NX. 2.5" pipe all the way back, emptying into a Tanabe Style Muffler. Only drawback: it's $580. I don't like the Nissan/Borla Catback setup, as the tailpipe is way too long and narrow, and the Stillen exhaust is kinda' blah. Overall, I'm not that impressed with Stillen's offering for the NX.

I think I was wrong about the benifits of upgraded exhaust, because the Factory Calsonic exhaust is evidently pretty restrictive, being choked into a 2" pipe and passing through a pre-muffler.

3-8-02
I just bought a K&N filter, as my first upgrade. That's all you can do in stock class to intake, as CAI is not allowed. I would like to upgrade my exhaust, but I don't really think it will help me as much as handling upgrades, so the last thing on my list is a new cat-back exhaust. I don't think the increase in horsepower would be that substantial, so I would rather put the money toward tires.

K & N: Installed
Muffler: $120
Cat-back pipe: $100
Projected time of Installation: '03
