It is always a good idea to know something about a place before you go there on vacation. We hope these tidbits are helpful.
The Barcelo Bavaro Palace is just fantastic. One of the best places in the entire Dominican Republic.
It is a great 5-Star Resort. That means better than a 3 Star or a 4 Star. Get the picture?
Don't overpack. We lived in shorts, bathing suits and sandels for the entire 8 days.
The food was better than we expected. If you have friends that have been to the Dominican Republic and they tell you the food was only fair, then they did not stay at the Barcello Bavao Palace.
There were many restaurants to choose from. Five alone at the Palace. Then you have all the other restaurants at the other 4 facilities. You can't go wrong at any one of them.
The best place to hang out during the day was the "outdoor grill" area. This is down by the 6000 block of rooms. This is the best spot on the entire beach. Here you can have either sun and shade. The palm trees are not "tall" ones. The grill and a bar are right there and no long lines. You are right next to the "barter tents" for souveniers, cigars and rum.
The best place to be at 4:30 pm was the swimup bar. All the "In crowd" hangs out here. Make sure you ask for Rafael at the bar. He is the best.
The best people there were the people "we" hung out with!
The lobsters there have no claws.
There area lot of good looking, young women going "topless" on the beach.
There are a lot of other women going "topless" on the beach that probably shouldn't.
Bring strong sunblock. You will get burnt in no time without it. Don't spoil your vacation on the first day.
The golf is free if you stay at the Palace but you pay about $25 for a cart. The course is "OK" ... nothing special. Make reservations as soon as you arrive.
Get yourself a massage. It is well worth the time and money. They are available on the beach in front of the 4000-5000 block. You will be glad you did
If you book a Bavaro Splash excursion take NOTHING with you except a towel and maybe a small amount of money as long as it's in a pocket. They will make you leave everything behind on the beach before you get into a boat, including shoes. Apply sunblock BEFOREHAND. They will allow you to bring a Waterproof camera on the boat and if you don't have one they will try really hard to sell you one.
No need to buys Dominican pesos, American money works just fine.
Tip your maids with little presents like cosmetics, jewelry, children's toys. Money is good too, but it takes a lot of American money to buy a lipstick there, so bring some with you and you will be treated very well.
At the Palace, when they say that the tiles are SLIPPERY, they are not kidding.
Don't just ask for rum, ask for Imperiale!!!!
