A Prayer For Our Nation
Almighty Father, Sovereign of the ages, Lord of the nations, God of Our fathers,
Source of all comfort and all hope...
Your plan stands firm forever, and any nation whose God is the Lord is blessed.
You are our Shepherd, delivering us from all evil ~ even in the valley of the
shadow of death. Through You, death itself is vanquished.
Your mighty hand brings justice to nations who trust in You.
You know how to comfort those who mourn, wrest beauty from the ashes,
and clothe spirits in despair with the raiments of hope. You will not disregard
our cause, but will accord strength to the weary so that we may once again
soar on eagle's wings. You comfort us even now, reminding us that
those who believe in You shall never die. Our foes may come to steal, kill,
and destroy, but Your resurrected Son guarantees us everlasting life.
You have told us, "Though in the world you will have trouble, in Me you will
find peace ~ for I have overcome the world."
Therefore, together as one nation under God, the God in Whom we trust,
throughout our land we lift up our voices as one to You in this unprecedented
hour of sorrow. Hear us in our humbled and shaken state ~ strengthen those
whose grieving hearts cry out to You. Shepherd us with mercy through this
valley of tears. In the place of destruction, pour forth the healing and full
measure of Jesus' life. In this time of confusion and fear, be to us our Rock
and Prince of Peace. Assuage our grief and despair with the balm of Your
comfort and reassurance. In the midst of this dark hour, arm us with the
remembrance of Christ's victory over all the terrors of hell.
Sustain us as a nation, God, with the triumphant faith we share in You.
