I finally did it. I went to the liquor sto' (on a day it's not closed) and bought the ingredients to make a
Vesper. It's ok. I've already worked out how I would change the recipe. I'm not a huge fan of gin, so I suspected I wouldn't be too fond of a drink with three parts gin. But I had to try. And now that I know the joys of Lillet, I would say it's worth the gin. Yeeeek... Sorry, I looked up at the tv to read some subtitles in The Da Vinci Code, and Little Kitty started licking the inside of my elbow. Cold nose, cold cold nose!

Anyhoo... I think I would rather have Lillet martinis with just vodka and Lillet. I need to get a bottle of the red Lillet. The description on the website sounds delicious.

My plan is to change the recipe a bit, with 3 parts vodka, 1 part Lillet and 1/2 part gin. If that's still too ginny, I'll take the gin out. The beauty of booze is its versatility.

Oh, and if you don't know, the
Vesper (this link is different) is a drink from Casino Royale. It was first mentioned in the book in 1953, and then it was ordered by Bond in the movie. Which I am encouraging everyone to see. Apparently, I wasn't the only one to have the Vesper idea, either. At the store, this sweet lil old guy who worked there crawled on his hands and knees to find me the last bottle of the white Lillet. Sigel's is a good store. They always take care of me.

Ok, I'm about 10 mins into the Da Vinci Code, the movie, and I think Tom Hanks is horribly miscast. I enjoyed the book. It was a quick read because the narrative had some tension to it, as well as some history. I had heard the movie was too talky. So far, it's too sub-titley. I might feel that way because I'm trying to type, but you know.

So, inevitably, people always want to know about New Year's Resolutions this time of year. I've been thinking about it, actually. The only resolution I've successfully kept in recent years, was the one I made to never make any more. But I thought I might make a few this year.

Drink more martinis (thus the Vespers)(Memo: get real martini glasses).
     Choose people instead of television
     Travel

We'll see how I do.

I haven't gone back to check my first post of 2006, but I've been thinking over the past year, and Lord knows, it was better than 2005. And I can't complain about 2007 so far. I spent New Year's Day with good friends, eating black-eyed peas and ham and corn bread. Yesterday, I got new sassy highlights and a hair cut. The only downside so far is the job. Yeah, still working. I seriously need to look into that winning the lottery plan I had. This whole "work" thing is cutting into my sleep.

I'm kidding, sort of. I like my job. We all know I'm much happier than at the last one, and far, far happier than I was at Neiman's.

All right. I need to go read these stupid subtitles. The funny thing is, it's subtitled because the characters are French. Usually, I'm bitching because some movie is set in another country, but all the characters sound like they're from Kansas. It's official. I cannot be made happy. ;oP
