October 21, 2003

English – Mrs. Rezendes:  The fairy tales were returned yesterday or today depending on class color.  Students completed a plus/delta chart reflecting on their strengths and goals for improvement.  Please ask to see your son or daughter’s plus/delta chart.  In preparation for our trip to the Zeiterion Theatre in December, we will read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow this week.  In addition, students will practice answering open response questions.

Geography – Mr. Palagi: 1st Meeting: Review “Five Themes”, showing examples from GeoFair topic. 2nd Meeting: “The Earth’s System”, in particular, seasons as they apply to students’ GeoFair topic. 3rd Meeting: “Earth’s Atmosphere and Climates”. 4th Meeting: “Global Climates”.

Math – Ms. Burgess:  This week in math, students in the Yellow, Green, and Blue classes will be learning about the Counting Principle and reviewing Chapter 13.  Students in the Red and Orange classes took a quiz on Monday, and will be continuing with Chapter 2.  Have a great week!  J

Reading – Mrs. Wheeler:  Most students took the second and last test of term 1 today (Green class on Friday).  It will be graded and returned by the end of the week.  The last journal of the term is due Friday.  Remember the October Bookfest project is due in ONLY 9 days!!!!  Please review the criteria (orange sheet) as you are working on the project.  It counts 25% of the term grade and it should be a WORK IN PROGRESS!!!  During class we will continue to analyze Question Answer Relationships.

Science – Mr. Fisher: We are finishing up with mitosis and reviewing for our test which will be in the last class of the week (Thursday-R  /  Friday – OYGB) Remember to use your study guide, flashcards, split page notes, and mind maps to help you prepare for the test.  Our third Science in the News assignment was returned to us this week as well.  The last Science in the News is due on October 29th.  Students who complete four assignments (instead of the required three) will have the opportunity to drop their lowest grade for these assignments.  Questions, comments?  www.mfisher.net  or email to [email protected].  Thanks!

Other News:  Gemini Artists will meet after school on Thursday, but since there are no late buses, if students would like to stay, they need to arrange for a ride home from parents.   We will be working on our mural to prepare for the arrival of the Wright Brothers’ plane next week.

Parents and students:  Our daily homework agenda is now posted on the Internet.  Go to www.mfisher.net and follow the links for Gemini Blue calendar or Gemini Blue Team Homework Agenda.

Educational Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker:  Now that the end of the term is fast approaching, there is much to do. Projects for the October Bookfest are due next week (Thursday, October 30th), and the term ends on Friday, October 31st. The Geography Fair project has begun, and the Fair will be held during the middle of November. As the time flies by, time management is essential! Parents, please help you child plan his/her time so that he/she can avoid the last minute, stressful tears that often occur when there is too much to do, and not enough time to do it in. Focus on quality work--spend time each day working on projects along with nightly homework.

World Language – Mrs. Borstel & Ms. Wesley:  We are finishing unit A with a quiz today.  A classroom object project is being assigned this week.  Please check the criteria sheet for details.  Start studying the new Vocabulary B list now.  The HEALTH rotation begins again on Friday.

TEAM News:

Reading Test --  All Plymouth students in grades 2-8 will be taking the Gates-MacGinitie Reading Test this week.  The vocabulary portion will be given on Tuesday and the comprehension portion will be given on Wednesday.  Please stress the importance of a good night’s rest and breakfast as SMART test taking strategies. J
