Latin rock forefather Carlos Santana has been a stranger to the studio for the last seven years, refraining from cutting new music since 1992's Milagro. Not that he's been completely absent from the music scene. In the interim he's released an excellent box set, Dance of the Serpent, and Legacy recently remastered and reissued the band's first three -- OK, let's call them definitive -- Santana albums.
The guitarist's long-awaited return, while not in the same sublime league as those first three records, (few rock recordings are), does indeed provide us with several good reasons for celebration.

Supernatural features performances by Dave Matthews, Everlast, and folks from the Fugees camp, among others. It is an excellent return to form, with enough rock rip and Latin overtones to remind us of those early '70s glory days and enough '90s firepower to bring Mr. Santana right up to date.
