Personality Megumi enjoyes to tease people, especially Kaoru. Megumi teases Kaoru about Kenshin and she actually has some interest in Kenshin that Kaoru does not like at all. When she first shows up in the manga she seems cold and selfish but later on she shows her true self. Megumi is a young woman, very carrying and responsible.
Backroung History Megumi's family was very know doctors. During the Aizusensou, Megumis father was killed and Megumi was sepparaited from her mother and two brothers. When she was 17, she joined up with a doctor. Megumi did not know that the doctor was working for Takeda Kanryu and was trying to produce "Ahen." When the doctor created the formula he tired to keep it for himself but Kanryu killed him and Megumi was the only one left with the knowledge of the formula. Kanryu forced Megumi to make the ahen for him. Megumi knew the formula was killing people and tried to kill herself, there was still a small peice of hope in her that someday she will be united with her mother and two brothers. When Megumi got a chance, she fled with the formula and ran into Kenshin and Sanosuke when they went out gambling. Kenshin then learns about Kanryu, the Oniwabanshu, and of their leader Aoshi. Kanryu learns that Megumi is hiding with the Kenshin-gumi at the Kamiya Dojo and threatens to destory it if she doesn't come back. Megumi agrees to return and then rescued bye Kenshin and Sanosuke. Kenshin and Sano face off the Oniwabanshu and their leader. In the end, Megumi was freed and Kanryu was arrested.
Watsuki's View "I haven't been inspired by anyone, but I wanted to describe an adult and capricious woman. Since she's actually become much different from the one in the special episode, many readers have been disconcert. To me, both Megumi are the same deep in the heart and I do not feel so much difference with the Megumi of the special episode, even if there the character resulted more in the background and it was described as a very active woman. For the main story it was necessary make her this way and so I described her a little capricious. Since it was the first time that I was making a character like this one, I learnt a lot of thing while working on it. If I read it now I must confess that I haven't been able to draw her capricious temper at my best I'm very sorry for this. The point of this drama was in the controversial impulses of her heart and actually I couldn't describe her in any other way... I must admit that I have a lot of fun in drawing Megumi, she is the only character that can speak to Kaoru as a true woman. From now on I think I will make her appear quite often, also because she is a doctor, necessary in a manga about samurai... from the readers' letter result two different opinions. One:'Aoshi and Megumi look good together.' The other:'Megumi and Sano are a nice couple.' To me the first one derives that they are very similar graphically, the second from the similitude of their own nature (not of their temper). But I haven't decided yet if I will get ahead with their love story as the one between Kenshin and Kaoru... The theme of this story about Megumi is the expiation of a fault. I wanted to describe the ideas and the feelings of Kenshin about the expiation of the Battousai through Megumi's torment. On this final part I suffered a little. If it continues like this when I will write the expiation story of Kenshin himself I will finish up even more tormented than him. If I think about it I already get a terrible headache. The drawing model has been the young grandmother of Cyborg Grandpa G by Master Obata. I fatigued a lot with this manga and in the end, as I though, I've not been able to draw her like Master Obata did and now she is just a Megumi drew bad and in my way..."
