Personality Absolutely dispises the government and seeks those who share the same dislike and are willing to join him. HIs most loyal members absolutely adore him and it is abvious why. He has a character of a leader and powered by revenge. Very skillful and eager, which make him a dangerous man.
Backround History After Kenshin left the Ishinshishi, Shishio took his place. He was just as strong and skillful as Kenshin was when he worked for the Ishinshishi as Hitokiri Battousai. Shishio had killed many enemies of the Ishinshishi and became a threat to the Ishinshishi itself when he began to gain too much knowledge. The Ishinshishi caught him off guard one day, shot him, and set him on fire. Apperantly this was not enough and Shishio survived. His skin was burnt off and he was weakened. About ten years later, he rose against the Meiji government. Kenshin was convinced to help defeat Shishio and his Juppon Gatana. Shishio dispised the government and wanted revenge for his betreyal. Shishio was a skillful fighter, but his previous wounds prevented him from fighting more than a few minutes, he was always bandaged and only Yumi had seen him unwrapped. When time cane for Kenshin to face off with Shishio, Shishio ended up bursting into flames. After his death, he met Yumi in the after life and planned to over throw Satan and rule over hell.
Watsuki's View "Actually he would not have yet to appear in this window, but since I have received so many requests of information about him I will give you some, avoiding to anticipate too much of the story. At the beginning the character had to be the protagonist of a great saga and for this I took no inspiration from anybody. In a first moment I thought about drawing him as a fanatic of the revenge. I would have been able to outline well his passion for the hate, but the story would have suffered for this, since it would not have been 'big' enough. Therefore I have imagined a destructive character but at the same time eccentric, that while is completing his personal revenge he also thinks about the conquest of the power of the country. Under this aspect he is like the captain of the Shinsengumi, Kamo Serizawa. For the rest I was inspired to the true evil of the video game Shin Samurai Spirits, Genjuro Sibagami. For the graphics I got inspiration from Shizuma Aonuma of the movie "You people of the Inugami family." Since I was a little boy I remained very impressed by this movie, so when I had to draw the scene in which the body of Shishio is full of sore provoked by the burns, at the beginning I thought about making him wear a rubber mask as Shizuma, but he would have been difficult to draw its expressions with the white and black and to give the idea of his suffering. For all these motives I have bandaged him as it appears in the manga. But since if he would have been only bandaged, he would result particularly ugly, I have crossed the band on his face and I have put him a strange headgear on the head... I have invented something according to my tastes, but you, what do you say of it? Graphically I wanted also to characterize him as a snob character as Kibagami, therefore I have thought about some detail. I have for example put him the kimono showing a shoulder, I have used the Japanese pipe, the umbrella and the screen and even a provocative woman at his side. Only once I have drawn him identical to Kibagami. I didn't believe I would have need to draw him the face not ruined by the burns, I had not prepared it, if someone had become angry for this choice, I apologize."
