Personality Chou likes to crack jokes and absolutely loves to collect Nihontou (japanese swords). He takes the love of swords abit to far, and even talks about wanting to see how it would feel like to cut up a baby. Chou found grinning from ear to ear. But, when Chou gets mad, he gets very mad. Chou doesnt seem like a bad sort (regarding the baby-cutting thing). However, he even becomes a secret policemen under Saitou, after Shishio was defeated. He doesn't get a long with Sano mainly because they are a lot alike. For example, they both have hot tempers.
Backround History Chou joined Shishio because of Shishio's Juppongatana. Most likely, Chou joined just because he had nothing better to do. One day Chou learns of the existence of Arai Shakku's last sword, a famous sword maker. Because Arai Shakku was now dead, there were no more swords and the sword in the possession of Shakku's family was his last. Chou, being a sword collector could not resist the temptation and steals Iori, the Shakku family baby and threatens then for the whereabouts of the sword. At the same time, Kenshin have had his sword destroyed battling with Soujirou and wanted Shakku's family to make him a new one. When Kenshin hears of the kidnappings, he meets Chou to stop him. Kenshin gets a hold of Shakku's last sword and defeats Chou. This battle was difficult because the sword was not a reverse blade and it was difficult to avoid any bloodshed. Cho was not active in the Juppon Gatana afterwards and was later seen in jail. When the Juppon Gatana was defeated, he began working for Saitou as a secret policeman.
Watsuki's View "For his character I was not inspired to anybody, but if I have to say the truth, I have perhaps thought about the general and also wrong image that circulates on the people of the Kansai (the region of Osaka and Kyoto). Among my assistants and my acquaintances there are native of the Kansai, and they are all good people. Me too, if I could revive, I would like to be born in the Kansai... But actually Cho is very different from the normal people of those parts. I beg you not to fall in the misunderstanding… However, despite Cho is a bad type, it is a nice character (the characters that speak the dialect of the Kansai are characterized very soon among the public and they almost always result nice). I had a lot of fun drawing him and I was almost sorry to end with him, therefore I have made him reappear in the magazine. Regarding the sketch, the assistants say that I was inspired to Galford, the readers instead they say that it resembles Benimaru of King of Fighters, but I am not inspired to neither one of the two. Actually I have created the base of the sketch of Cho when I was twenty years old. At the time he seemed an extraterrestrial and at the end he had not been kept in consideration, but I felt bad not to use his face part of a horse and part of a monkey and this time I have found him a part. At the beginning he had uncombed hair kept back, it was different from today's Cho. I wanted to immediately give a strong impression to the first warrior of the Ten Swords, and I have added a touch of punk-rock. I perfectly understand because the readers exchange him for Benimaru. Speaking about the dialect of the Kansai (that in the comic strip has not been possible to make to the best), it has been correct from one of my assistants native of that region, of which I had already spoken in the previous volume, and thanks to him I have tried to get it understand from the readers of the other regions. Therefore, at the end the real dialect of the Kansai doesn't result. I think that the readers of the Kansai are not very happy for this, but considering that Kenshin is a manga devoted to the whole Japan, I ask them to close an eye on this change."
