Second Chances
Part 6
by Keiko
Yay, I finally decided to put this up.  This marks only half of what I've written so far, and what I've written so far is only about half of the story.  So, yeah, this is gonna be a really long fic...

Ok, disclaimers, blah, blah..
Sixteen years later...
"Ne, Yui-chan, lets go to the library."
"Nani?  Again?  But we just went yesterday."
"Demo, I feel so much better studying in the library.  The high school entrance exams are tomorrow." Miaka looked apologetic.
Yui regarded her best friend.  ~Miaka's tried her best to hide it, but she's really heart broken over Tamahome and the rest of her seishi.  I only wish there was someway to make it all better.~  "Fine, let's go." She finally said.

"Ne, Juan, what high school are you going to go to?" Shouka snuggled up to her boyfriend.  "Jonan?  I hear thats the best school in Tokyo."  Tama, Juan's cat, was sitting in her lap, purring with contentment.
Juan looked deep in thought for a moment.  Then, as if in a trance, he whispered, "Yotsubadai High... I think Im going to go to Yotsubadai High..." He shook his head and smiled.  "I don't know why, but I really want to go to Yotsubadai High."
"Really?  Well, okay, if youre set on going there, then I'll go with you."

"Hirogari-san, how may I put this, your outstanding test scores have been noticed by the school board, and they have agreed that a talent such as yours should not be wasted in middle school.  Should you choose to do so, you may qualify for any high school in this district, no, any high school in all of Japan."
Hirogari Chisei stared at the man before him, wide-eyed.  This representative of the Tokyo City School Board was telling him that he, a mere thirteen-year-old, could be a student at any high school of his choice!  This was his dream come true!  He had always wanted to surpass his peers, his fellow students, who in truth, he didn't really like.  If he could go to high school, maybe he would finally be able to meet people as intelligent as this man sitting in front of him believed him to be.  He looked up as the man spoke again.
"Now, we'd like to settle you in a nice high school where you can develop your intellect among some very exceptional students, we'd like to suggest Jonan High..."
"NO!!" Chisei burst out, "I DON'T WANT TO GO TO JONAN!!" He clapped his hand over his mouth in surprise.  The man looked as surprised as he did.
"May I ask why you do not wish to go to Jonan High?  It is one of the most prestigious high schools in Tokyo."
"I... I..." Chisei felt very confused.  "I'd like to... I'd like to go to Yotsubadai High, if possible."  He blushed at his request.
The man raised his eyebrows, "Yotsubadai High is a very nice high school, though certainly not as nice as Jonan High, but if that's what you wish, it can be arranged."
Chisei heaved a sigh of relief.

      "Kourin!  Dinner time!"
"Coming, okasan!" Kourin ran down the stairs, taking two at a time.  Her mother set a bowl of rice in front of her as she slid into her seat.  Kourin quickly dug in.
"My, my, you must be really hungry today." Her mother smiled at her.  "Keep eating like that, and you'll become as strong as an ox."
"I'm already as strong as an ox," Kourin managed to say between mouthfuls.
"Of course dear, though no one would guess your strength by looking at you.  You're as delicate as a flower." Her mother laughed affectionately.  "By the way, have you decided which high school you want to go to?  Jonan?  Yotsubadai?"
"Yotsubadai." Kourin said firmly.  "I don't want to go to a school where competition is high, like at Jonan."

Keiko's rant: Ha!  Delicate as a flower my butt!  Well, anyway, if you still haven't figured it out, Chisei is Chiriko reincarnated.  I didn't like the way his real name sounded, so I changed it.  Everbody else should have their real names... well, except... ok, I'm not gonna give away too much here.  Go back to Part 5, go on to Part 7, or go back.
