      Here's a brief introduction to Shinkidosenki Gundam Wing, one of the most poplular series in the entire Gundam Universe (of which there are at least 13).
       After humans have colonized space, conflict arises between the original earth and the people of space. The space colonies wished to be independent of the Earth's rule, but a military organization on Earth refuses to acknowlege their freedom and goodwill. Thus, five Gundams were created and sent to Earth by five different scientists from five different space colonies. The purpose of these gundams was to attack and destroy the corrupt military organization of the countries of Earth and win freedom for the people of the colonies, who can be considered as the protagonists as this point in the story. Piloting these amazing mobile suits made out of gundanium alloy are five unique young men with each their own talents and skills. The story of Gundam Wing is their story, as they fight their way through a war between Earth and Space, taking no side but their own.
      The five young men (boys, some call them) are as follows: Heery Yuy, pilot of the gundam Wing Zero, from Colony L1, Duo Maxwell, pilot of the gundam Deathscythe, from Colony L2, Trowa Barton, pilot of the gundam Heavyarms, from Colony L3, Quatre Raberba Winner, pilot of the gundam Sandrock, from Colony L4, and Chang Wufei, pilot of the gundam Shenlong, from Colony L5. Each went on their missions believe they were the only ones to fight against the oppression of Earth, yet as they battle, they face one another and must decide whether to work together or apart, or even to fight each other. Their own conflicting personalities also comes into play in this crucial decision.
       It will not be right to tell the story of Gundam Wing without mentioning one of the most important characters outside of the gundam pilots. The pilots are the soul of the story (without them the story would not exist), yet Relena Darlian, formerly and later Relena Peacecraft, can be said to be the heart of the tale (though MANY dislike her intensely). She is recognized by the pilots as the one person who can stop the war that rages between Earth and Space, because of her deep and unfaltering belief in peace. She works diligently to gain influence among the powers of Earth and help the war end outside of the battlefield. Without her, the pilots would have had a harder time ending the war by themselves.
       Alright, praising Relena's many virtues has left a bad taste in my mouth, but no one can deny that she was an essential part of the story, and no one can claim that she didn't help the war end. But I've given a good introduction to Gundam Wing, and I'll go disparage her reputation elsewhere on this page, and believe me, you'll find that I have much (bad things) to say about Relena. Here I'll limit myself to a truthful unbiased account of her.
