| 28/01/2007 Keighley Athletic 2 Three Horses 5
Athletic looked to be comfortably heading for all three points, leading 2-0 with twenty minutes to go through Alex Familio and Steve Kernan strikes. But the aging team capitulated, letting in a flurry of late goals and ending up comfortable losers. 14/01/06 New Variety Club 3 Keighley Athletic 4 Athletic, who showed no signs of any rust after six weeks without a game started brightly and soon found themselves one up through Alex Familio . After conceding a couple of weak goals they found themselves trailing 2-1 at the break. The away side came back strongly after the interval with Tom Whitwam equalising from an impossible angle and new signing Pete volleying Athletic into the lead. Alex Familio grabbed his second to put the game out of New Varietys reach despite a late consolation goal from the home side Athletic went on to win 4-3. 19/11/06 Keighley Athletic 3 Silsden Town 2 Athletic scraped through to the next round of the Keighley Sunday cup with a hard-fought victory in the Marley mud. The home side started brightly and were soon in to a two goal lead as the pacy Alex Familio twice punished the Silsden defence with marauding running and classy finishing. Silsden fought back though and deservedly pulled a goal back just before half-time. The second half began with Athletic asserting themselves and Mark Johnson extended the lead following a flowing length of the field move involving the majority of the home side. After that Athletic looked mostly comfortable but Silsden had the last word with a cracking consolation goal right on the final whistle. 12/11/06 Keighley Utd 4 Keighley Athletic 6 Nicholson and Kernan returned from injury and it made all the difference as Athletic put in a good display at Oakbank. The veteran Kernan was in great form, banging a classy hat-trick, Al Familio bagged two good ones too and young John Child added another. Looking much better 05/11/06 Stanbury 6 Keighley Athletic 1 Woefully understrength due to injuries and unavailability- we were very soundly beaten. 29/10/06 Keighley Athletic 2 Three Horses 4 Athletic probably had the better of this one but they were let down once again by some comical defending and woeful finishing. Paul Goodwin and Tom Whitwham scored two well taken goals, apart from that we werent very good. 22/10/06 Cavenish 0 Keighley Athletic 1 Bit of a scrappy affair but one well taken goal from Familio settled it against game opponents 15/10/06 Keighley Athletic 7 Keighley Utd 0 I was out injured and wasnt there- which probably explains the result. Think Paul Owens(3), Al Familio(2), Tom Whitwham and Ben McCormack scored. 8/10/06 Keighley Athletic 1 AC Victoria 5 Athletic's slump continued in a game which turned into a bit of a hammering, which seemed unlikely after an even first half. Moriarty the Vic forward was the difference, as he banged in 4 quick goals. Athletic's finishing was again poor and Steve Kernan's late strike was little consolation. 1/10/06 Kirk Deighton 2 Keighley Athletic 0 A disappointing performance from a half-strength Athletic, the visitors had enough chances to win comfortably but Stew Nicholson and Steve Kernan were both wasteful and the home side, who had very few chances, took advantage. The booze-up around Wetherby and Headingley afterwards was fun though .24/9/06 Keighley Athletic 3 New Variety Club 4 Athletic lost their unbeaten record as New Variety took the spolis from this keenly fought encounter. Athletic suffered an early blow when striker Steve Bland limped off injured after only a minute. Variety took advantage and went ahead although new signing Martin McLennon soon equalised for Athletic. Variety scored again just before the break only for Al Familio to bag a second equaliser. Variety then grabbed two quick goals and although Athletic rallied and pulled one back through a spectacular own goal- they could not find a further equaliser. 17/9/06 Silsden Town 1 Keighley Athletic 6 Athletic completed a comfortable victory in Silsden to move top of the league. The visitors started brightly and Steve Kernan put them into an early lead, numerous chances were then squandered and could be said that Athletic got what they deserved when Silsden equalised just before half time. The finishing in the second half was much more clinical as Kernan added a second, man of the match Rob Wall struck a hat-trick and Steve Bland picked up the other as Athletic continued their unbeaten start to the season. 10/9/06 Keighley Athletic 3 Stanbury 2 This was great win for Athletic who showed bags of character to come back from behind and take all three points. In a fairly even first half Athletic were perhaps unlucky to come in at half time two goals down, the difference lie purely in the quality of the finishing as Stanbury's Bainbridge and Armstrong showed the Athletic strikers how to do it. The second half was a completely different story as Steve Bland, Rob Wall and Alex Familio completely overrun the Stanbury defence with Wall hitting two and Familio the other. 7/9/06 George Cullingworth 4 Keighley Athletic 4 Athletic will rue not taking all three points from this competitive encounter: Played on a difficult surface, this was a physical match in which the visitors struggled to get going and found themselves two behind early in the second half. Athletic eventually raised their game and scored four quick goals from Paul Owens(2), Tom Whitwham and Steve Kernan but two late George goals brought them a point they probably deserved. 3/9/06 Three Horses 2 Keighley Athletic 5 Athletic kicked things off in style with a fine win against the Horses. The team had a new look about it, with several key players missing through injury. But a strong defensive performance and some good finishing ensured the scoreline was more comfortable than it could have been. Steve Kernan and Jamie Smith got the goals along with the outstanding Steve Bland (2) and Alex Familio. |
