Hojo: Part I

Professor Xavier Hojo stared blankly into the mirror, gazing at himself, and the reflection of the clock which read 8:35pm. Lost in thought Hojo closed his eyes and began to feel the anticipation of his newly born son rise. Hopefully, the JENOVA cells would take and make his son beyond the state of man, and not another faliar. His thoughts were interupted as the Emergency Door crashed open, and a man in a white labcoat holding a billboard rushed out, facing the father-to-be.

"Well, out with it." Hojo said impatiently, folding his hands behind his back, "My child, what is his condition?"

The doctor cleared his throat, and extended his arm to the Professor, "The baby is healty. Congratulations."

Hojo looked past the doctor, and ignoring his friendly gusture handshake, brushed past him and entered the door. When he first entered the room, he spotted his wife Lucretia laying on the bed, exhausted. In her arms she heald a little baby with emerald green eyes. Hojo smirked as he walked up next to Lucretia, heald her hand, and put his other hand on the baby's head.

"Sephiroth Hojo," Hojo whispered, looking into the baby's half shut eyes, "My son. The perfect creation ever to bless this lowly land."

Lucretia looked up to her husband, and found herself gripping his hand tighter now. She smiled faintly at Hojo, and inhailed tiredly.

Hojo looked dopwn at Lucretia, "Get some sleep. It's been a long day."

Kissing her and Sephiroth's head gently, Hojo left the room with a smirk.

"Son of Jenova," he whispered, "the gods are with us my son. They scream for liberation..."

Fourteen Years Later...

+The sun slowly arose over the small town of Nibelheim, casting a orange glow over the buildings. Lucretia was already up, making early breakfast in the kitchen. Hojo, who had been up for many hours, still continued writing at his desk. A small gray haired boy jumped up into a chair at the table, and began to pray as he always did. Lucretia turned around, and smiled lovingly at her son.

"Sephi, did you have a good sleep?" she asked, turned back around to her cooking food.

"Yes mother," he replied, setteling down.

Hojo then walked into the room and yawned, streaching out his arms he said, "Another day's begining, how poetic."

"Father," Sephiroth said, looking up to him, "today you take me to the cliffs, correct?"

Hojo looked down at his fourteen standered year son, "As I promised."

Sephiroth's black boot touched the soft dirt; the sun gleaming on his short spiked white hair. He wore a white long sleaved shirt, a black vest, denium jeans, and black hiking boots. Hojo came out behind him in a plain white shirt and black pants, grabbing his white over coat. Sephiroth took a few steps out into the middle of the town, where only a handful of people stood casualy. It was a slow town; very slow.

"This town is nice..." Sephiroth said with little or no expression on his face, "Like a story. Nothing bad ever happens-"

"Nor intresting." Hojo finished him, "You were born and raised her and believe me when I say that you are destined for bigger things; much bigger."

Sephiroth turned to his father and stared at him with his green eyes, "I believe you father, everything you tell me." he said with admiration.

Hojo nodded at his son, slipping on his lab coat, "Shall we press on? I believe the sooner we leave the sooner I can show you the Mako Reactor."

"Yes. It's about time I got to see one of Shin-Ra's Mako Reactors." he replied, looking out into the direction of the mountain path, "About time..."

Hojo and his son continued on toward the Shin-Ra Mako Reactor, following the carfully plotted mountain path that streached along the edges of the mountains. Hours later, the two clambered up to the Mako Reactor, and Shin-Ra territory. Sephiroth stood still, amazed at the huge structure. He had never seen anything like it. He had pretty much stayed in Nibelheim for most of his life; his father would come back and forth to Midgar, and not bother taking him nor his mother with him. Hojo always said it was for his own protection that he stayed away from Midgar until he was older, although he never did give a reason why. Instead, Sephiroth trained much with a specially crafted sword his father called, the masamune; the sword of the Gods. His body was a warriors body, and his DNA was one of a genius.

"Come now, before darkness falls and we are torn limb from limb by wolves." Hojo said, brushing past his son and toward the Reactor.

"Wolves?" Sephiroth whispered in discust, "Bring it on..."

The large metal doors open with a large creek, as Xavier Hojo opened them with a push. A few bats emerged from their dark crypt, fileing out of the Reactor is a frenzy. Sephiroth stood his ground, not paying any attention to the bats that flew by him.

"Here we are my son, the Nibelhiem Mako Reactor." Hojo presented with a smirk, walking further in.

Sephiroth grunted, "Horrible death device. Kill our planets will you-"

"Stop complaining and come to me!" Hojo warned.

Exhailing, the son of Hojo followed his father deeper into the Reactor. Gears and wheels were turning, and the smell of fresh Mako filled the entire place; it smelt like clear spring water. Sephiroth walked slowly over a metal grate bridge, his father already ahead of him. Their was something about this place that made Sephiroth feel unconfortable. A familliar essence was near, and his body fealt strange as he neared it. Finally, his father came into site as he stepped off the bridge, and entered another room; this one larger. Steel pods were grated to the ground, and Hojo peared in a few as he walked up more steel stairs.

"Father?" Sephiroth said, walking past the pods but not daring to look into them, "What is this?"

Hojo stopped, turned around, and laughed, "My son, these are mearly expariments. Creatures created off pure Mako energy, and JENOVA cells. Really quite fasinating."

Before Sephiroth could ask another question, Hojo was already back to his walking; further away from him. Picking up his pace, Hojo's son followed his fathers path up the steps, and directly in front of another steel pod- but only much bigger. Xavier stopped at the door, and ran his fingers along the window. He chuckled softly to himself. Sepiroth glanced up above the door to see the letters J.E.N.O.V.A. cut into the metalic surface.

"Jenova?" Sephiroth whispered to himself, "Jenova?!" he said once more, this time louder.

Hojo looked back to his soon and immediatly stopped his laugh, "Come with me. Now."

With a serious look placed upon his face, Hojo latched open the heavy doors; Mako steam pressure pouring from it's interior. A slow, heavy pulse beat sounded in Sephiroth's ears, and for the first time he could remember, he fealt fear. Fear; a power that couldn't be tamed. Something took over his body, and he found himself walking into the chamber, into the mist, past his father, and up to a platform. Hojo stood against the wall and flipped down a switch. Vents opened up and quickly sucked out the white mist from the room; but also sealing the door. Sephiroth's eyes cleared and before him, he saw what it meant to be a Hojo. Withen a glass tube, was a creature. This was Jenova, no question about it. Sephiroth, with shaking hands, placed both hands on the glass wall, and began to trembel. Hojo stood back, and admired this moment; there was really no need for talk.

But Sephiroth's mood came into play, "What are you..." he whispered.

He listened carefully to the pulse beat, staring into the creatures eyes, "Where do you come from...where do I come from..."

Jenova's eyes flashed a small glow, and Hojo's eyes grew wide with fear.

"Seph-" he yelled, but was cut off by Jenova's psycic abilities. Hojo could not speak, nor move, only observe.

Sephiroth found himself whole when he looked into the eyes of the creature. He found a new truth; a new begininning.

Hojo was desperate to speak, but he couldn't so much let out a squeek. Jenova was but a powerful creature being harvested of her cells to make a new breed of warrior; Sephiroth being one of those muts. Jenova was supposivly under control, but perhaps she was faking her power; waiting for the time to strike; the time she found Sephiroth, he exit to this prison, her son.

"Why are you locked up in here..." Sephiroth continued, "You need help...you scream for it...waiting for a reply..."

Hojo knew if he didn't act now, Sephiroth would free Jenova, and Jenova would pruswade him into her wretched illusion for the future; something Hojo couldn't let happen, not yet. Jenova's eyes shone a bright yellow, responding to Sephiroth, trying to pollute his mind with her thoughts and ambitions. Xavier struggeled to gain control of his own body, screamed within himself to let go.

"Come with you?" Sephiroth continued, "Well..."

"N-No-NO!!" Hojo yelled, lunging forward.

He quickly grabbed Sepiroth and threw him down the platform onto the steel floor. He looked into Jenova's eyes with anger, and her emotionless expression enranged him.

"You bitch!" Hojo yelled, "We'll see who the master is, I'll show you, you freak of nature!"

The Professor flipped up a panel that was next to Jenova's tank, and began to type in script.

"No one takes my son away from me! No one!" Hojo continued to rambel.

The computer quickly answered Hojo's requests, and Jenova's tank fluid began to bubble, and boil. The pulse beat quickend, and small sounds of pain came from her lifeless body.

"In the end, the master gets the last laugh-"

Hojo's body turned cold, and his vision becamed blurred. His stomach began to convulse, and he coughed up red blood. Turning his neck around slightly, he saw the figure of Sephiroth, his son, driving his long sword into his fathers back.

"You...ungreatful...little brat.." Hojo laughed slightly, "S..splendid..."

Then that was it, Hojo quickly blackened out, and hit the floor. Sephiroth brought back the blade, and looked at his father on the floor. He then realized what he had done, and heald his breath. Killed his only father; he was a murderer. The sound of Jenova's pulse going back to normal eased him, and he looked back up to her, back into her eyes, back into her world. His sword made a mental clash as he let it drift to the metal grate, realeaseing the handle. He once again pressed his hands against the tank, and stared into the creatures eyes.

"M..mother?" he said softly, "Is it you...? I remember you calling me, all those years ago...I ignored it mother, forgive me..."

Sephiroth was too busy with the scene, that he never heard the transports outside the Reactor. He never heard the Shin-Ra SOLDIER's stepping onto the hard rock of the mountain, doing a round check for President Shinra that day.

Sephiroth looked at the panel aside to him where his father had been working, and then back to Jenova. His face turned determined, and he breathed deeply, "I will get you out of here. You will tell me everything you know...if you are indeed my mother."

Flipping on some switches, Sephiroth knew what to do, watching his father working in his workshop at home when he was a kid.

"Almost don-"

"Holy shit!" a man yelled behind him, looking at Hojo's cut up body, "A..call for backup!"

The second soldier quickly ran, as Sephiroth turned around and saw the remaining Shin-Ra 2nd class SOLDIER. He looked to his, then to his gun, then to his own Masamune sword. The son of Hojo quickly reached toward the sword, but as he did, the soldier fired his assult rifel, and shot up his hand. Sephiroth lurched back in pain, and slumped down next to the J.E.N.O.V.A. tank.

"M..mother..." he whispered in pain.

Jenova's tank began to glow a light orange, and in the soldiers confusion, fired off a single shot of fire. The soldier screamed, but not for long, as his burnt body lay crisp on the ground. Jenova's tank then went dark, and a wave of sleep passed her. Seconds later, five 2nd class SOLDIER's ran into the chamber, only to stop dead in their tracks. Sephiroth lay with an injured hand, feverish. Hojo was a bloody mess, and their comrad had been burnt to cinders.

"Get a chopper up here!" the officer yelled, "Hojo's kid went mad! By the gods inform head quarters!"

"Right cheif!" one SOLDIER yelled, running back out of the chambers.

The cheif walked up to the injured Sephiroth, bent down to his eye level, and placed his rifel on his own shoulder, "You gonna hang for this murderer..."

With that whispered, the officer reached back, and nailed Sephiroth in the temple with the foot of his gun. Everything went black.
