    A Traditional Thanksgiving

    (Dedicated to my family)

The harvest has been gathered -under a hazy November sky
And we come together as the season ends, to bid Autumn goodbye
To celebrate the fruits of our land -we prepare a bountiful spread
While the annual ritual is taking place, preparing the turkey and bread

The Thanksgiving Parade is on the tv in the family room
We await for Santa to come down the lane and
    watch the floats and balloons
The wonderful scents that tease our senses, from the kitchen arise
And the smells linger throughout the house of the cakes, puddings,
    and pies

Soon we gather round the table ,after, all the plates have been set
We say grace and reminisce of those no longer with us---
    least we not forget
With dishes in hand, we circle, around the dinner buffet
And fix our plates, from this bountiful array

Turkey, mash potatoes, gravy, green beans,
Rolls, buttery buns, pumpkin pie with whip cream
We settle into conversation, while eating our dinner
Talking about football- betting which team will be the winner

After dessert, we pack up the leftovers----
to give away before our relatives go
We hug them at the door baring holiday greetings~
    as a winter wind blows.
