    After Trick Or Treating

Late into the hour on Halloween night
Walking home alone, not a soul in sight
Mother warned me not to stay out late
The only shortcut home is through the cemetary gate

Jack O' lanterns laugh as I pass by
Starring at me with their haunting eyes
With candy coated thoughts to ease my mind
I think of all the goodies I have to dine

Popcorn balls and candy carmel treats
Some gumballs, stickers, and lollipop sweets
Still my heart feels so uneased
Wondering what is waiting behind the trees

So I pause for a second, wondering what to do
Should I pass by, or just cut through?
It's a quicker way home and I'm already late
So I walk on through the cemetary gate

Each step I take sends shivers up my spine
As I walk through this spiritless shrine
Clutching my bag of goodies and treats
Wishing I would have stayed on the well lit streets

My heart jumps when a tree branch crackles
And I swear I just heard some witches cackle
    Werewolves howling at the moon
Did something fly over my head on a broom

Walking a little faster as shadows dance behind the stone
Looking over my shoulder as I hear a frightful moan
My heart sunk lower when I saw the black cat
It's bad luck they say when one crosses your path

Evil eyes peering at me from all around
Wanting to call for help, to scared to make a sound
A bat just swooped down by my head
I wish I were already home in bed

There's something ahead and I can see
Long skeletal arms reaching for me
I tried to run but I slipped and fell
Slimey hands try to pull me into the pits of hell

I fight harder and I'm able to break free
From the skeletal arms, but it was just a tree
And the slimey hands when I fell down
Were only night crawlers on the ground

I dust myself off but I still feel weary
To be walking through a place so eerie
I follow the moonlight down this lane
When goblins and ghosts start screaming my name

"What do you want? Leave me alone
I only want to just go home
Please don't eat me I don't taste good
Eating me would be like chewing on wood"

It's then my heart leaps with delight
When I see my, precious, mother in sight
She yells at me because I am late
As she rushes me through our wooden gate

"I told you to be home early", she yells
"Don't give me any stories about demons or spells"
    "But Mom.......But....But....But Mom, its true"
"Tomorrow we'll decide a punishment for you"

Then she tells me to get to bed
"We'll discuss this in the morning", she said
She wouldn't be mad if she knew
How I almost became part of a witches brew.
