    Autumn Poem

    September crept upon us-- again
    And we wave summer, goodbye
The days are getting shorter now
    As autumn days draw nigh

The last of the honey bee
    Lingers around the bin
And what's left of summers heat
Is turning to a mild wind

The hills are painted all in gold
And the leaves are russet brown
The apples ripe and cherry red
    Have fallen to the ground

And cattails ruffle in the wind
As geese head to the sky
Ghost's of autumn sing their hymn
    We behold their long goodbye.
