Page 1 1) The name of this society will be �Keele Dance Society� 2) Membership types: a) ORDINARY MEMBERS � Theses are members of the Keele University Students Union (henceforth referred to as KUSU). They are to pay the subscription fee of �3.50 at the beginning of the academic year. b) ASSOCIATE MEMBERS � These are people who are not members of KUSU yet want to join the society. They are to pay the normal subscription at the beginning of the academic year. They are not to hold executive office and may not vote in the elections c) HONARARY LIFE MEMBERS � These are members that have made an outstanding contribution to the society. They are not to vote and may not take executive office. 3) Benefits of membership: a) Meetings every week open to all members. b) All members are invited to all social events within the society. 4) Society aims: a) To enjoy dance whilst learning new skills and gaining confidence. b) To promote, through society literature and publicity, and be committed to Equal Opportunities in accordance with the societies Equal Opportunities policy as laid out below, creating a welcoming atmosphere of non-exclusivity for all members and potential members. c) To provide a forum for meeting new people and becoming part of not only a society but a social circle of friends. d) To promote the society within the university, in the surrounding community and nationally. e) To raise money through various activities for worthy causes. 5) Society ethos: �Work like you don�t need the money, love like you�ve never been hurt, and dance like no one is watching.� (Satchel Paige) 6) Equal opportunities policy in accordance with KUSU: (I) Introduction Discrimination of any nature is unacceptable and as a result will not be tolerated by this society. Furthermore this society resolves to create a positive and welcoming atmosphere for it�s members and visitors, and ensure they are treated fairly. (II) Bullying and Harassment (II.1) Definition of Bullying: �Persistent, offensive, abusive, Intimidating, malicious or insulting behaviour, abuse of power or unfair penal sanctions, which make the recipient feel threatened, upset, humiliated or vulnerable, which undermines heir self confidence and which may cause hem to suffer stress.� (II.2) Definition of Harassment: �Unwanted conduct based on gender, age, race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, religious belief, political belief, appearance, social status, spent criminal convictions, HIV status, or gender reassignment which affects the dignity of individuals or groups.� |
