'Summer has ended and school starts tomorrow. It flew by with me babysitting and spending so much time with friends. I'm really going to miss everyone. I was with most of them for at least five years. And have been friends with Kolenya for eight. Wow! A new school means that I'm going to have to make all new friends. Well, dinner's done. Gotta go.' That's what Katya wrote in her diary the day before school started junior year.
Katya was 16 years old and quiet shy, going to a new school after eight years is big for her. She has blonde hair, blue eyes, and is short. She loves reading and writing. In fact, she finished one story earlier this year.
Katya shuts off her radio and heads downstairs for dinner. To try and cheer Katya up, her mom made her favorite food, beef stroganoff. But nothing could cheer her up. Not long ago, Katya had broken up with the love of her life, Jeffrey, because he lied to her. Katya was very depressed and went, crying, over to Kolenya's house.
Kolenya is a lot taller than Katya and teases her best friend about her height. Kolenya, being 5'9, can rest her arm on Katya. Kolenya has blonde hair and green eyes and when these best friends get together, you might want to watch out. These two are so close that everyone thinks they are sisters instead of Katya and her actual sister.
So Katya eats her dinner and goes into the computer/bird room and signs online. None of her online friends are on the computer so she signs into her favorite chat room and starts talking almost instantly with some guy. An hour later, she signs off the computer and goes down the road, to Kegan's house, to get her sister and brother.
When she gets upstairs, with her mom's cell phone, she plops down on her bed and calls Reign, her friend from Georgia. After they hang up it is 10p and Katya has to go to sleep. So she sets her alarm, turns on the radio, and stares out the window until she falls asleep.
Monday
Bring! Thwap! The alarm goes off and Katya hits the snooze button, just to awaken nine minutes later. So she gets up, gathers her clothes, and goes downstairs for her shower. At 6:30a she is back upstairs waking her sister and brother up. They all get ready and walk outside half and hour later, just as Kegan is walking up. So they all walk to school and put their things in their lockers and head to the office for their schedules.
The bell rings and Kegan is off, leaving Katya and Mellisa, her sister, waiting there. They receive blank schedules and are told to go into the guidance office. So they walk down the hall and into the guidance office. The person they find there looks too young to be there but he's cute, as all the girls are saying. Katya get's her schedule done first, being the oldest child. Then she is sent to her first class of the day.
Well, school goes well for the most part. Katya met Luke, a guy in all her afternoon classes and whom sits in from of her in Spanish. But she doesn't make any other friends. In fact, she has to sit by Kegan at lunch so she isn't eating alone. Well, after school Kegan has spirit squad practice, where he is the only male cheerleader. So Katya walks home with Mellisa and Matthew, her brother. Once home, she immediately phones Kolenya. They exchange schedules and then Katya proceeds to tell her best friend about Luke. Then Kolenya tells Katya, Kat for short, about a new kid in school.
"You should see him, Kat. Johnny looks exactly like my dream guy, Gabe. You know: jet black hair, the cutest blue eyes that would make anyone fall in love with him. Oh yeah, and he's about 5'10. Oi vay!"
"Hey Kol, by the sounds of things, you are in love with him. You are going on and on about this guy. Did you meet him? Personally I mean," Kat asks her friend. Kolenya has always said that she didn't believe in love and that what Kat felt for Jeffrey was just a crush. But Kat always knew it was full-blown love and that Kolenya would fall in love eventually. Maybe the time had arrived.
"Whatever, Kat. But hey, I gotta go. My dad's got like a million things for me to do. Love ya," Kol says. They hang up and Kat picks up her bag and goes to the couch to do her homework. But her thoughts wander to Jeffrey.
Jeffrey is 19 now and graduated last year. Kat and Jeffrey went to prom last year and that was the night they declared their love for each other. But Kat now thinks that Jeffrey lied and was never in love with her. And that broke her heart. Oops, she's being called to dinner and never did her homework.
After dinner, Kat logs online to see that once again no one is online. So she goes into chat and Reign is on. He immediately p2p's her (person-to-person) and they talk for an hour. Then she has to go finish (start) her homework and logs off after Reign promises to call her that night. So Kat does her homework and then goes outside to sit on the swing.
On the swing, she thinks about Jeffrey once more. Their hands fit perfect, they always walked hand in hand and their steps would match. Oh how she missed him. The door of the house opens and Katya turns around.
"Kat, phone for you, honey," Kat's mom says.
"Who is it?" Katya asks, looking at the phone and silently hoping that it is Jeffrey.
"I'll give you a hint. He's 5'8, has brown hair, green eyes, and is completely in love with you. Come on honey. You can't ignore Jeffrey forever. It's not going to help you at all." And with that, Katya's mom puts the phone on the windowsill and goes back inside. Kat gets up and goes to the phone with every intention of hanging up.
"Kat, I guess you don't want to talk to me. I can understand that. I know that you are holding the phone and will probably hang up on me. But before you do, I love you, Kat," Jeffrey says.
"How can you sit there and tell me that you love me? You lied to me. I don't think that you ever loved me. How could you love me and then lie to me like you did. I love you, Jeffrey. That will never change. I don't hate you either. But I don't know how I can sit here and listen to you." Kat yells. And with that she hangs up the phone. Kegan, who had just arrived, looks at her strangely. "Sorry, Kegan. That was my ex on the phone." Kegan just nods and walks into the house, knowing he has permission.
Katya gets up and heads inside to her room. Once there, she turns on her television and pops in a movie. She then picks up her notebook and starts writing out character descriptions for a new story. Kat likes to write when she's mad. So she writes out the characters and plot. She is able to write the first few pages before she is called down to go get her siblings. By the time she gets back, she is so tired that she goes up and goes straight to bed.
