August 30, 2002.I can't believe that it is already the end of August and the summer is coming to an end. Not that it won't be nice to get some cooler temperatures! Having to get through the summer without air conditioning after having had it for so many years has not been an easy task. At least Kylan has had cooler temps at the credit union. I, on the other hand, have suffered with just a small fan in my home office...the dogs had the benefit of the a/c unit in the bedroom! Obviously, there are no photos on the diary page this time. That's because we haven't done much that's been photo worthy lately! What have we been up to? Not much really. We took a couple weekends off after having spent most of June and July getting the house ready for Kylan's family. We did manage to see a couple of movies though. Kylan had been looking forward to seeing The Bourne Identity for awhile so we finally went. Not really my type of movie but I actually enjoyed it. The plot was decent and relatively believable, and the acting was well done. I especially liked the car chase through the city...pretty amazing driving. We also saw The Country Bears. It's a Disney movie...was there really any doubt that we would go see it?! Actually, we had a good excuse. We just happened to be looking after our young friend Emily and she really wanted to see the movie. We had a great time! And as with all Disney films, there are some inside jokes and plenty of stuff for adults to enjoy. We did manage to do a couple of other things over the past month. We drove up to Cleveland and went to a Cleveland Rocker's (WNBA) game one night. Once again, Kylan had free tickets so it wasn't quite as costly as such an outing might normally be. We even bought something to drink inside the Gund! LOL! The game was pretty good and we had great seats (9th row!). The women play much harder than the men...lots of shoving and elbowing. And the crowd seemed more excited than at the men's games. Lots of stuff going on in between periods and during timeouts as well. We also went to Six Flags last Sunday. Living barely 45 minutes away, there's no excuse not to go at least once in the summer. It was lots of fun...and we didn't even go on any rides! We walked around the rides area but then went across the lake and spent most of our time in the former Sea World. Of course, we had to watch the Batman boat show since Robin makes an appearance. (For a further explanation of that one, click here.) We saw the bird show as well, which was pretty fascinating. The talking birds were, as always, the comic relief. And, of course, we had to see the park's latest addition. They brought a killer whale over from France just a few months ago (the park was without one for a few years). She is absolutely gorgeous! And for those interested in my gardening efforts, I have been doing more diggin in the front yard. The incredibly annoying holly bushes are almost completely gone and I've been planting some mums to fill the empty spaces. I have also placed my order for bulbs which should be delivered within the next month sometime. Come spring, the front garden will be full of crocuses, hyacinths, and tulips! I ordered online so I could get the widest variety of sizes and colors. But I'll probably buy more at the local nursery when planting time rolls around. You can never have too many tulips, you know! Later, D. |
