April 3, 2002.

Finally...another diary entry! I hope that everyone had a nice Easter and is enjoying the (slightly) warmer weather. If it would stop dropping below freezing around here, it would be perfect! But at least it's only been raining a bit...no more snow.

We haven't been up to anything incredibly exciting lately, but we have been doing some things. We got to look after one of our favorite little people recently. Emily (age 5) came to stay with us for the day when her mom and dad (Sheila and Eric...Kylan works with Sheila and they helped us move) had to attend to some family business. Emily is a really great little girl...she is very well mannered and sweet. Plus, she is really fun to be around. We had a great time coloring and drawing, and watching her favorite cartoons (Rugrats and Sponge Bob). I guess it was a good test of our tolerance and endurance!

We didn't do much for Easter. Kylan is still trying to get used to the "northern" traditions. In the south, Easter is strictly a church holiday, meaning that you go to church all day. And there is nothing in the way of Easter baskets or egg hunts. We bought ourselves some nice chocolate from a local candy shop, though. And my mom even sent us some Laura Secord Easter eggs. (If you are Canadian, you know how important Laura Secord is at this time of year!) And Kylan surprised me with an Easter basket full of goodies...although it did require some not so subtle hinting.

As for April Fool's Day, I got Kylan really good. A little background...I am always downstairs first in the morning and I let the dogs outside, one at a time (we have to put them on a leash because our yard isn't fully fenced in yet). And, because of the dogs scratching it, the screen on our back door is ripped. Banzai has jumped through the screen a few times, but amazingly she stays in the yard. Spirit, on the other hand, loves to explore and the one time he jumped through, we chased him down the street and around the corner before we caught up with him! Anyway, back to the prank...I let Banzai out first and I put Spirit in the downstairs bathroom. Then I started yelling "Spirit! No! Get back here!" and I shouted upstairs to Kylan that Spirit had done it again, jumped out the back door and took off. Kylan came barreling down the stairs, pulling on a shirt and pants, got his shoes on and ran out the front door, yelling for Spirit. I got Spirit out of the bathroom, went to the back door, and shouted for Kylan to come around back because I saw Spirit. Kylan came running around the side of the house, trying to see where Spirit was. He turned to ask me where I had seen him and when he saw me standing there, holding Spirit, he knew I had gotten him. He was actually proud of me for pulling off such a good prank. Kylan didn't get me back either. He said that I have to put up with his jokes the other 364 days of the year so April 1st was his day off.

I'll stop there for now and save house stuff for next time.

Later,
D.
