My Civil War Vets
All of my Civil War ancestors--that I have found so far--fought for The Union. This was amazing to me, especially since they were all Tennesseans. East Tennessee was largley pro-Union. Campbell County, Tennessee supplied no Confederate Units in The Civil War--all units were Federal Union.
There was a plan that President Lincoln approved to burn railroad bridges through East Tennessee, followed by Federal troops coming in and securing the area. The troops never came, except to hold Cumberland Gap for a time, still many East Tennesseans were loyal to the Union.
