West Is Best: Kath's Rockin' Rocky Mountain Page

Mountains seem to have been built for the human race,
As at once their schools and cathedrals:
Full of treasures of illuminated manuscripts for the scholar,
Kindly in simple lessons for the worker,
Quiet in pale cloisters for the thinker,
Glorious in holiness for the worshipper.
They are great cathedrals of the Earth,
With their gates of rock, pavements of cloud,
chains of stream and stone,
And vaults of purple traversed by the continual stars.

John Ruskin (1819-1900)

Here is where I'll try to capture some of the beauty I've experienced in Western Canada over my lifetime. The best time I've had out there was the summer of 1998. I lived in Banff and worked in the middle of nowhere, British Columbia, working for Canadian Mountain Holidays.

Here's Banff Avenue, with Cascade Mountain in the background.

The world famous Banff Springs Hotel, from a cliff across the Bow River:

This is the most beautiful place in the world, Iceberg Lake. The picture doesn't do it justice, unfortunately.
