          SPEAKERS FOR 2002
MARCH 26--DAVID C. HINZE
His personal journey through America's Civil War began when three third graders stumbled off a sandlot baseball field in St. Louis into a neighborhood library in search of a cold drink.  With the typical commotion that accompanies young ball players they wandered through the books until confronted by a kindly woman wearing the badge of librarian.  Rather than scold the boys she steered each to a diffferent section of childrens books.  She pointed our speaker to a tall, narrow case of yellow bound biographies about civil war personalities.  Once he pulled one of the slim volumes from the shelf, and the rest they say is history.  David is co-author of "The Battle of Carthage: Border War in Southwest Missouri", along with numerous other articles.  He is a high school history teacher.  He and his wife Mary, operate Hinze Civil War Tours.  His topic will be about Phillip Sheridan and titled"From Clerk to Colonel: A Look at the Trans-Missisippi career of the soldier and beyond."
Welcome to the Civil War Round Table's Website! The Round Table provides opportunities to come together in a social setting and hear distinguished speakers share their studies of the many facets relating to this period. You will meet ment and women representing a full spectrum of expertise about the Civil War - ranging from the casual reader interested in learning more to the true expert eager to share knowledge.

Civil War Round Table members have been very active in local preservation projects including the Battle of Westport and the Big Blue Battlefield sites in Missouri, and the Battle of Mine Creek in Kansas. The markers and the cannon at Loose park and the preservation of the land along the Blue River are evidence of our members' hard work.

Many members prefer to only attend the monthly meetings, but greater participation is welcomed. The following are ways you may become more involved and get the most out of a Round Table membership:
Assist with the development of historical tours,
Make presentations to school or civic groups as part of the speaker's bureau,
Assist with preservation projects, and special events

Dinner meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of January through May and September through November. Non-dinner meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of June through August.
Annual dues are $25.00 per person or $37.50 for couples. There is a one time name badge charge of $5.00 per person. If you have questions, please call (816) 356-1113. To join click on the "become a member" link below! We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting!
